BackUkraine was founded in 2022 amidst the heartbreaking events of the Russia-Ukraine War.  It was developed in order to organize and coordinate relief efforts for the country and its people. We know that Ukraine will face terrible hardship not only during the active war, but for many years to come as the country and its people recover and rebuild.

We have seen the tremendous desire to help from the many good people of this world. But with hundreds of Ukrainians dying, over 1.7 million Ukrainians displaced, and miles upon miles of beautiful Ukrainian land turning into rubble, it can be hard for those living so far away to figure out how they can make a difference.  This is especially challenging with a labile, unstable, and quickly-changing situation that is unpredictable for the country as well as for the entire world. 

We developed BackUkraine to help increase awareness about the country, provide context around the current situation, and raise and coordinate funds for relief efforts. The ultimate focus of where funding will go will be determined by the situation and needs of the country and its people.  Some examples include, but are not limited to, helping to rebuild buildings, organizations, and infrastructure that remain on Ukrainian-owned land, helping with the medical needs of Ukrainian soldiers and civilians, supporting children affected by the war, assisting with resettlement efforts, and helping Ukrainians meet their basic needs.
